The PM891 processor is a monolithic unit equipped with power supply, CPU-boards and unit termination. The unit contains microprocessor and RAM memory, a real-time clock, LED indicators, INIT push button and a Secure Digital interface. The PM891 does not contain any internal battery The PM891 has two RJ45 Ethernet ports (CN1, CN2) for connection to the Control Network, and one RJ45 serial port (COM4). The COM4 port is isolated and used for a configuration tool. The PM891 supports CPU redundancy for higher availability (CPU, CEX-Bus, communication interfaces and S800 I/O).
The communication expansion bus (CEX-Bus) is mounted on the unit. The CEX-Bus is used for extending the on-board communication ports with communication interface units. It is possible to use redundant communication interfaces on the CEX-Bus. The CEX-Bus Interconnection unit BC810 is used to increase the availability on the CEX-Bus by dividing it into separate segments. The optical Modulebus of the unit can be used for connecting seven clusters of S800 I/O units (each comprising up to 12 units). Each PM891 is provided with a unique Ethernet address which provides hardware identity to the unit.

The rich function block library includes several types of control loops, including advanced control and auto- tune capabilities as well as integration for drives and motors. The controller communication by means of Ethernet includes on board RNRP redundancy along with a broad set of communication modules to connect to third-party devices. A superior redundancy concept allows for fast switch-over times and topologically separated CPU-modules. Several CPU modules are available, varying in terms of processing power, memory size and redundancy support. Priority controlled, time-based tasks allow the highest stability in even complex control tasks.
Supporting standard IEC 61131-3 programming languages, Compact Control Builder is the tool for engineering the control code and the hardware layout of AC 800M. It creates logic, sequential and analog control-intensive automation solutions for all existing controllers in the automation system to be handled in one database. The flash memory card allows loading applications without the need to utilize the engineering tool to support OEM and remote solutions.
The AC 800M for Compact Control Builder is a family of PACs built as rail - mounted modules, consisting of CPUs, communication modules, power supply modules and various accessories. There are 7 CPUs to choose from, ranging from medium processor power and low cost to high processor power and support for full redundancy.
CPU RedundancyThe AC 800M CPUs PM858/PM862/PM865/PM866A/PM867 and PM891 can be configured for CPU hardware redundancy. Here, two CPU modules will run in parallel, one as primary and the other as secondary.
