The AI890 Analog Input Module has 8 channels. The module includes Intrinsic Safety protection components on each channel for connection to process equipment in hazardous areas without the need for additional external devices.
Each channel can be either a current input or power and monitor a two-wire process transmitter. The current input is for externally powered transmitters. The input voltage drop of the current input is typically 3 V, PTC included. The transmitter supply for each channel is able to provide at least 15 V at a 20 mA loop current to power Ex certified process transmitters and is limited to 23 mA in overload conditions. All eight channels are isolated from the ModuleBus and power supply in one group. Power to the input stages is converted from the 24 V on the power supply connections.
TU890 and TU891 Compact MTU can be used with this module and it enables two wire connection to the process devices without additional terminals. TU890 for Ex applications and TU 891 for non Ex applications.

AI890  Features and benefits

The AI835/AI835A provides 8 differential input channels for Thermocouple/mV measurements. Measurement ranges configurable per channel are: -30 mV to +75 mV linear, or TC Types B, C, E, J, K, N, R, S and T, for AI835A also D, L and U.
One of the channels (Channel 8) may be configured for "Cold Junction" (ambient) temperature measurements, thus serving as CJ-channel for Ch. 1...7. The junction temperature may be measured locally on the MTUs screw terminals, or on a connection unit distant form the device.
Alternatively, a fix junction temperature for the module may be set by the user (as parameter) or for AI835A also from the application. Channel 8 may be used in the same manner as Ch. 1...7 when no CJ-temperature measurement is needed.

Analog Input module

This isolated barrier is used for intrinsic safety applications. It transfers digital signals (NAMUR sensors/mechanical contacts) from a hazardous area to a safe area. The proximity sensor or switch controls a form C changeover relay contact for the safe area load. The normal output state can be reversed using switches S1 and S2. Switch S3 is used to enable or disable line fault detection of the field circuit. During an error condition, the relays revert to their de-energized state and the light-emitting diode (LEDs) indicate the fault according to NAMUR NE44.

POWER SUPPLY
The power supply supplies the Interface Module, the I/O electronic modules and the field circuit. The power supply provides the following supplies: - Power Bus for the I/O modules and the field circuit - Electrical circuit for S-Bus - Electrical circuit for Interface Modules The power supply is specified in the following.

 INTERFACE MODULES
The Interface Modules are the connector between the fieldbus and the internal Bus of the ET 200iSP with the I/O modules. The input and output data are processed. The Interface Module supplies the Electrical circuit for external field bus system.

 I / O MODULES
There are as many as 32 I/O modules arranged in the internal bus system (taking into account a maximum supply current of 5 A total). You can find the rule to determine the maximum number of modules in the manual "Distributed I/O Station Type ET 200iSP". Respective to the module type they enable the activation of the process interface. This applies to the complete system installed within the hazardous (classified) area. The maximum current drawn by each module is shown as Isupply on the following pages.

 Selected intrinsically safe equipment and associated apparatus must be third party listed for the application, and have entity parameters conforming with Table 1 below. When installing according to FM requirements, all intrinsically safe apparatus must be FM approved.
