FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION:
The Profibus Slave User Manual describes the operation, configuration, and physical characteristics of the PROFIBUS Slave device. The Horner Electric HE693PBS106 provides the GE Fanuc PLC with a flexible communications interface to PROFIBUS networks for Decentralized Peripherals (DP). The HE693PBS106 operates as PROFIBUS DP modules only. They do not support the other types of Profibus (FMS, PA). The PROFIBUS utilizes a Master-Slave type of communication with the HE693PBS106 functioning as the slave device. Decentralized Peripherals (The Slave) include but are not limited to: input/output devices, drives, valves, and measuring transmitters. DP's are mainly used to connect programmable controllers to the above devices via a high speed serial link. Baud rates of up to 12 MBd can be obtained through PROFIBUS. Up to 32 devices (masters or slaves) can be connected in one segment without using repeaters, or up to 64 devices can be connected using repeaters. Master devices are used to determine the data communication on the bus. One master can service several slaves. Several Masters can participate on the bus simultaneously, but a slave can only receive outputs from one master. The slave devices are peripheral devices that include input/output devices, valves, and drives. Slaves do not have bus access rights and can only acknowledge received messages or send messages to the master when requested to do so. Any master can read data from the Slaves. All connected Slaves have the same priority.

The GE Fanuc IC693PWR331 is a High Capacity power supply. This Series 90-30 unit runs off DC input. It has a 30 watt wide range and is designed for 24 VDC nominal inputs. If used in applications that demand more than +5V current capacity than provided by the standard supply, the IC693PWR331 power supply will allow all 30 watts to be consumed from its +5 V output. The unit accepts an input voltage range from 2 VDC to 30 VDC and is capable of maintaining all outputs within specifications with input voltages as low as 2 VDC. That being said, the power supply will not start with initial input voltages less than 8 VDC. Three different outputs are available from this supply. The smallest is +5 VDC output. The other two are +24 VDC. One of these is +24VDC Relay power outputs, which supplies power Series 90-30 Output Relay module circuits. The last is Isolated +24 VDC. Typically, this power is used internally by some modules; however, it may also supply external power to 24 VDC Input modules.
Users can calculate the power needed for their applications whenever using this unit. To start, you must determine the total output power load for each individual module in the system. These specifications are available in the Installation Manual for the IC693 PLC series. Next, multiply the output power by 1.5. This will give you the input power value. Then, divide the input power by the operating source voltage to calculate the input current requirement. When you want to know the maximum input current, it's best to use the lowest measured input voltage (or else a good estimate!). When making this calculation, take into consideration the start-up surge current requirements. It's also advised to permit a margin of 10-20% to allow for variations.
